Aker Solutions Asia Pacific

Aker Solutions Asia Pacific is organised as part of Aker Solutions' subsea business. With regional headquarters in Singapore, Aker Solutions Asia Pacific comprises a network of operations in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Jakarta, Indonesia and Perth, Australia, serving the principal markets of Malaysia and Indonesia, in addition to Vietnam and Australia. Key strengths include extensive local knowledge and resources combined with the ability to mobilise the appropriate expertise for all types of projects.

Approximately 400 staff are involved in front-end engineering design, detailed engineering and project management for development projects as well as maintenance and operations support. In addition to provision of engineering and construction services, Aker Solutions Asia Pacific also undertakes turnkey EPIC (Engineering, Procurement, Installation and Commissioning) Projects.

With a presence in the region for over 20 years, a substantial track record has been gained in the execution of technically demanding projects in a broad range of disciplines. One such example is in offshore oil & gas conceptual design, where innovative selection of structural arrangements for the offshore jackets have resulted in significant weight saving and subsequent cost-savings. Development of ‘off-the-shelf’ jacket structures for minimum facilities in marginal field developments is an ongoing programme. Detailed design of offshore process facilities is a key area of expertise and track record includes projects in Brunei, Malaysia, Australia, China, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Over the years, a regional centre of excellence has evolved for pipeline and trunkline engineering, for shallow and deepwater installations, as well as onshore pipeline facilities. Projects have been executed for the transportation of unprocessed/processed hydrocarbon well fluids including single, two and three phase flows, as well as potable water, water and gas for injection, effluent and corrosive chemicals. The scope of services includes conceptual development, cost estimation and investigations covering field survey and hind-casting for wave data. Design engineering activities also comprise corrosion assessment, selection of materials (carbon steel, cladding materials or special materials), pipe sizing, supporting and protection techniques, model tests, construction methods and commissioning procedures. A number of firsts has been achieved including the bottom-pull installation of the world’s heaviest pipeline/cable bundle for Shell in Singapore waters. Aker Solutions Asia Pacific also pioneered the use of bottom tow for pipeline installation in deep water and in areas where mobilisation costs of more conventional construction vessels would be prohibitively high.

The use of floating production facilities represents a growing trend in the industry and Aker Solutions Asia Pacific has been involved in a number of the region’s major projects. These include detailed design of an FPSO tanker and SPM for Lufeng 13-1, Oil Field Development, South China Sea, FPSO process facilities for the Cossack and Wanaea project, North West Shelf for Woodside Petroleum Pty Ltd, Australia and basic design of the Devon Energy Panyu FPSO topside process facilities.

Maintenance, modifications and operations is a core area of expertise, particularly resident in the Perth office, where a number of projects have been executed that have generated industry benchmarking performance for operators.

Onshore, Aker Solutions Asia Pacific has been involved in design and engineering of natural gas treatment facilities, LPG from a natural gas production plant, crude sweetening units, hydrofiner, crude oil hydrogenator and sulphur plant facilities for oil refinery processing and onshore receiving stations and metering facilities.

Aker Solutions Asia Pacific’s track record also includes over 25 jetty projects including an offshore jetty for 30,000/5,000 DWT tankers and associated pipelines in Thailand and several projects in Singapore waters. One of these projects involving expansion of GATX existing chemical products berth to two new berths, received the Construction Industry Development Board of Singapore (CIDB) Awards of Construction Excellence. This project involved over fifty pipelines handling more than 100 products, constructed without disruption to operations on the existing jetty.
