Aker Solutions can plan and facilitate operator training both on the plant and in the classroom, using 3D models developed on CAD.

In order to provide a smoother and quicker transition from construction to commissioning and then to start-up, Aker Solutions can provide staff to link in with the commissioning team to plan and carry out plant start-ups.

Aker Solutions  undertook two maintenance contracts for British Energy at Sizewell B for a number of years following plant commissioning. These involved maintenance of the resin handling systems, the radwaste encapsulation plant and the solid and liquid waste incinerators, and the maintenance of area and process radiation monitoring, seismic monitors and process and nuclear sampling systems throughout Sizewell B.

Aker Solutions current O&M activities are exemplified by our current work at Trawsfynydd, Hartlepool and Dungeness A. At Dungeness A we have been operating and maintaining the Magnox Dissolution Plant and Waste Retrieval equipment since 1998. Following a period when the plant was made idle, Aker Kvaerner was awarded a contract to refurbish and recommission the plant. This work was carried out in 1998/1999. And was followed with the award of an operating contract, in which we were required to retrieve and process sludge and splitters from the vaults, as well as undertake the monitoring and health physics surveillance, and monitoring and disposal of redundant waste processing equipment.

The complexity of this project required total integration of  Aker Kvaerner’s multi-skilled work force into the British Nuclear Group management and control systems (permitry and training, etc.) in order to maintain project timescales and achieve the work rates. The project was completed in 2002 ahead of schedule.

The company has wide experience in the successful planning, preparation and execution of plant overhauls and shutdowns.  In particular, Aker Solutions can integrate with the customer's management team and aid in the process of developing the work scope with a view to minimising costs and downtime.
