Since the mid 1980s, Aker Solutions has been delivering major capital projects in close cooperation with Carillion and Atkins. In 2002, this success was formalised with the creation of ACKtiv Nuclear, a joint venture between the three companies to deliver whole life cycle projects, centred around remediation, decommissioning and clean up, to the nuclear industry.

Scope

Vault Waste Retrieval, Magnox Dissolution plant (MXD) at Dungeness

1989 to date (various projects)

Scope included the design concept and then engineering, supply, construction, commissioning and operation to safely retrieve and dissolve Magnox splitters and radioactive sludges.

Legacy Ponds Remediation, Sellafield

2003 - ongoing

The ACKtiv Nuclear JV provides project management, detailed design, procurement, installation and commissioning to clean up the Legacy Ponds.  Client has acknowledged the pro-active safety culture on this contract.

Upgrade Low Waste Repository (Drigg)

Commenced 2006 – 5 year contract

Management of a portfolio of projects, including the design, procurement and installation of new equipment and facilities; and the decommissioning and demolition of redundant facilities.  Significant consideration given to the protection of the environment as part of project strategy and implementation.

Retrievals project, Sellafield

 2007 - 2012

Project scope covers the full project lifecycle from concept through design, development, procurement, installation and commissioning through to operational support. The initial phase of the project is scheduled to run until March 2012 and this will be followed by a period of operational support. The project will contribute significantly to the post operational clean out of the First Generation Magnox Storage Ponds, and the ultimate safe decommissioning and site remediation of this historic spent fuel storage facility.

Export project, Sellafield

2007 - 2009

Project scope covers the full project lifecycle from concept through design, development, procurement, installation and commissioning through to operational support. The project will contribute significantly to the post operational clean out of the First Generation Magnox Storage Ponds, and the ultimate safe decommissioning and site remediation of this historic spent fuel storage facility.
