The UK government introduced the Environmental Pollution Act 1990, which implemented Integrated Pollution Control (IPC). The Pollution, Prevention and Control (PPC) Regulations, announced in September 1996 came into force in 1999. The regulations extend the number of processes that will be subject to authorisation and now cover a much wider range of industrial and agricultural processes.
