Well service is conveyance of mechanical tools or logging equipment to perform operational objectives downhole in oil and gas wells, at measured depths even ranging above 10 000m.
Technology development has in recent years revolutionised the way that tools and logging equipment are being conveyed into wells. The different solutions range from the heaviest and most expensive methods to the lighter and more cost efficient solution. Drillpipe, snubbing and coiled tubing are examples of heavy and expensive methods. Most well services today involve conveying tools and equipment into wells by use of wireline.
Through its technology development projects Aker Solutions has introduced the highly reliable PowerTrac® wireline tractor technology to enable cost efficient wireline operations in highly deviated wells. The tractor technology has expanded the work scope of wireline services to cover operational objectives where previously heavier intervention methods were necessary.

As the number of subsea wells worldwide increases, so does the demand for cost efficient Well Intervention methods. Drilling rigs have traditionally been used for wireline Interventions on subsea wells. Aker Solutions sees the great future of riserless light well intervention. By applying the latest in subsea technology combined with purpose-built wireline surface equipment, wireline operations can now be performed from smaller floating vessels such as light floaters or boats.
