Our experience in designing dedicated and multi-purpose facilities for APIs is unrivalled. We are highly skilled in the handling of new molecules and their higher potencies, and in implementing the latest containment techniques and computer control systems.

We have pioneered new CAE/CAD systems to develop specifications, designs, installation information and validation documentation, thereby facilitating the early availability of flexible plants for new chemical entities in the market place.
Our specialists and project implementation teams have the necessary experience to support the diverse requirements of our clients no matter what scale of project or stage in its life cycle.
Our local expertise is supported by our global resources and management control to deliver compliant projects and value added services anywhere in the World.
Multi-Product PlantsThe use of multi-product plants for the cost-effective manufacture of APIs and their intermediates has evolved since the early 1980's. From this time, Aker Kvaerner has been fully involved with the design evolution of these plants including , batch control, IBC usage, segregated process and service areas, modular design principles, manifolding, layout concepts and the integration of general purpose and special reaction areas within buildings.
Design StandardisationAker Kvaerner are working with our major pharmaceutical clients to produce Standard Design Packages for widely used process equipment. These will provide a modular basis for the design and construction of process plant and will include drawing templates, design basis documents, process calculations, basic process control information and validation protocols. The main benefits of this approach will be:
- to reduce design, build and commissioning time and cost
- to improve supplier relations leading to reduced cost and lead times for both initial supply and maintenance, and
- to increase commonality of plant resulting in reduced life-cycle costs, enhanced manufacturing flexibility, and improved technology transfer.
It is foreseen that these packages will reflect current best practice in the design of API plants, and will subsequently form the basis for all capital and revenue projects by these clients.
