Features
- New microbiology pilot plant on 3 levels with a total floor area of 5,300 m2
- All areas where live organisms are handled are contained to the Health & Safety Executive’s Advisory Committee on Genetic Manipulation (ACGM) Large Scale Containment Category 2 (LSCC-2) and Laboratory Scale Containment Category 3 (LSCC-3)
- Major DCS control system for control and in process monitoring of 28 fermenter packages and effluent thermal inactivation system
- Aker Kvaerner scope included DCS hardware requirements specification, and detailed DCS software programming procurement
- Microbial Fermenter Hall with 24 fermenters of 10l to 500l scale
- Mammalian Fermenter Hall with 4 fermenters of 10l to 50l scale
- Each fermenter hall provided with walk-in autoclave suitable for LSCC-2 operation
- Primary separation equipment includes disk stack centrifuge, tangential flow filter, homogeniser and isolator, dynomill and isolator, and tubular bowl centrifuge. All equipment designed for flameproof operation with organic solvents up to LSCC-2 biocontainment. Separation area provided with flameproof autoclave suitable for LSCC-2 operation
- Extraction equipment includes wiped film evaporator, rotary vacuum filter, liquid separators and associated vessels and pumps all designed for flameproof operation with organic solvents. Rotary Vacuum Filter capable of operation to LSCC-1 biocontainment
- Thermal Inactivation System for inactivation of all contaminated liquid process waste prior to release from the facility
- Process utilities included clean steam generator, oil free air compressor including breathing air package chillers, process water package, vacuum pumps and associated recirculation systems
