Warehousing

The need to reduce the cost of manufacture of pharmaceutical products whilst complying with the requirements of cGMP requires that all aspects of the manufacturing process be integrated and optimised. The cost of materials, their handling and storage, as well as the indirect costs associated with stock holding and wastage are areas in which potential short and long term savings can be made.

Warehousing

An optimum system minimises transportation, handling and storage costs whilst using space efficiently. It will reduce costs of materials held in inventory and cut down waste due to material testing, damage or expiration.

Local distribution warehouses are also often seen as a low risk starting point in entering new markets. The planning of these units needs a long term flexible approach if future problems are to be minimised.

Aker Kvaerner offers a total service to the pharmaceutical industry covering all aspects of material management. This service is supplied by specialists with experience and expertise in all aspects of material handling, control systems and facilities design including:

  • Logistics audits: examining the efficiency and strategic relevance of existing and planned facilities and procedures
  • Operational audits: reviewing specific elements of the supply chain, ranging from material management software use to the mechanical efficiency of an automated warehouse.
  • cGMP audits: reviewing existing facilities for compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements.
  • Feasibility studies: reviewing options for particular elements of the supply chain. These studies can also cover the integration of new systems into the overall production process and the development of strategies to minimise risk by planning contingency arrangements.
  • Conceptual Design: for new facilities with emphasis on providing low initial capital cost combined with planned flexibility to allow for change and expansion.
  • Project execution: identified improvements or on complete projects. Our flexible and cost effective resources are able to execute all sizes of project including design, procurement, construction and commissioning.
  • Validation: We are fully aware of the importance of cGMP and validation in materials handling. A specialist in-house group provides full validation services.

We also offer a full service in warehouse design for both high and low technology solutions. The design teams make use of the knowledge of our local offices when the facility is to be built to ensure best use is made of local materials, and all local design codes and permitting procedures are followed.
