These reference plants employ thermal oxidation technology to destroy CFC-containing waste gases from the client's manufacturing process, in order to reduce gaseous carbon emissions.
The Japanese technology supplier, Tsukishima Kankyo Engineering Ltd., uses a vortex burner and submerged combustion scheme, in which various types of recovered Fluorine and Chlorine-containing waste gases can be efficiently destroyed.
The plant operating in India was executed as a CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) project. CDM allows industrialised countries to provide investment in developing countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The CDM executive board of the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention for Climate Change) provide credit for these emissions, which can be traded on the open market to help companies involved in these projects to offset the cost of the initial investment.
Aker Solutions received an award for Engineering Excellence from the IChemE in 2001 for the installation at the Ineos Fluor Rocksavage facility. The US Protection Agency also presented a Climate Protection Award to the client for the plant.
