Early advancements in electrolyzer design have made Aker Solutions the leader in sodium chlorate technology. Since our introduction of a novel graphite electrode cell in 1964, we have been continuously developing our electrolyzer design and process technology.
Today, after supplying over 60 plants with a combined production capacity of about 1,000,000 tonnes per year, our chlorate technology as been chosen more times by more producers than any other.
It is no wonder that our sodium chlorate technology has been so successful. With an electrolyzer that offers unmatched operability, efficiency, and longevity, combined with in-house developments in the chlorate crystal production process, we have led the industry with our innovations.
We also have the know-how and experience to retrofit other electrolyzer technologies to improve cell performance and operability, increase capacity, or to customize the design to meet site specific requirements.
Our vast experience and specialized computer models have enabled us to develop an intimate understanding of the sodium chlorate production process, and this expertise is embodied in our chlorate electrolyzers and plants.
Aker Solutions' customers for its sodium chlorate technology include pulp mills and merchant producers. Some pulp mills manufacture sodium chlorate on-site and often integrate their sodium chlorate plant with a Aker Solutions chlorine dioxide plant. This integration offers numerous advantage over stand alone chlorine dioxide production. Merchant facilities on the other hand usually operate much larger sodium chlorate plants, with virtually all the chlorate produced as a crystal product. Aker Solutions' technology has been developed to meet the diverse needs of these clients.
