The METEOR™ EO/EG Process from Dow Technology Licensing is the world’s most advanced technology for the production of ethylene oxide and glycols. Under a cooperation agreement with Dow Technology Licensing, Aker Solutions is the approved bidding contractor delivering services to METEOR™ Ethylene Oxide/Ethylene Glycol (EO/EG) process technology licensees.

The cooperation agreement extends to helping potential licensees in the evaluation of the METEOR™ EO/EG Process and executing engineering, procurement and construction contracts for companies that sign licenses.
The METEOR™ EO/EG Process is unique compared to other technologies, both because of the simplicity of its plant design and because of its EO catalyst, which provides the rare combination of high efficiency and activity.

Aker Solutions and Dow have a long history of technology cooperation which has led to a highly successful model for project execution. The time dedicated to learning the nuances of Dow’s proprietary technology makes Aker Solutions the most cost-effective partner for Dow in helping customers establish their EO/EG production. Because of the collaboration, the learning curve in each plant design is diminished. Licensees are assured of a customized facility that seamlessly integrates the METEOR™ EO/EG Process and brings product to market in less time.
Aker Solutions employs its deep understanding of the METEOR™ EO/EG Process to provide licensees with a complete set of services, including:
• customized process design package (PDP)
• 3-D modelling
• control systems design
• design of offsite facilities necessary to support the EO/EG battery limits
• procurement and construction services as needed
• lump-sum turnkey EPC bidding with strong use of local business partners
• supply of key equipment and bulk materials

METEOR™ Simplicity in Technology:
- METEOR™ EO/EG Process employs a single reactor and a streamlined process, resulting in reduced capital investment, less equipment, and a smaller plot space.
- METEOR™ catalysts are a unique combination of high selectivity, high activity and long life, providing low operating costs.
- This combination of streamlined process and efficient catalyst means METEOR™ is producing more tonnes of oxide/glycol product per tonne of ethylene feedstock than other technologies.
METEOR™ Simplicity in Safety:
The simplicity of the METEOR™ Process provides numerous inherent safety features:
- The single reactor requires no gas isolation or flow control, virtually eliminating disruptions and variations.
- The Emergency Shutdown System spans the entire life of the catalyst and requires no resetting of trip points.
- The proprietary reactor design eliminates reactor post ignitions.
