“The objective of this symposium is to commemorate the centennial of mining research in the United States. This research was formally initiated with the creation of the U.S. Bureau of Mines in 1910 and the Mine Safety and Health Research now resides within the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH),” according to SME.
Presentation topics are to include mine safety and health, mining systems and technology, ground control, and mine ventilation. The presentations should reflect the historical developments in mining safety and technology, as well as the mine disasters over the years that drove these developments. Leading international mining researchers were invited to present and discuss historical advances in mining methods, technology, safety and health in their countries and to share with us their significant research accomplishments.”

Speakers from Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc., the National Mining Association (NMA), the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Rio Tinto Minerals and other industry leaders, comprise the keynote session’s guest panel. Technical presentations will feature new horizons and new challenges facing the minerals industry.
SME’s Annual Meeting presents an excellent opportunity to develop and sharpen professional skills and knowledge, as well as network with the industry’s leading professionals. The SME Exhibit expects more than 4,500 attendees and will feature more than 410 companies exhibiting state-of-the-art products and services.
