In order for all of the functions involved in operating a Nuclear plant to be managed successfully, it is essential that the physical infrastructure complies with the requirements that have been mandated by law, through standards, by regulation, or in contracts.  In turn, the information that the operator maintains about the plant must accurately reflect the actual physical configuration itself, and must enable the owner/operator to verify that the requirements are being satisfied.  The approach that Aker Solutions and Enterprise Informatics are taking through their alliance is aimed at providing solutions to this requirement.

Aker Solutions and Enterprise Informatics have the combined skills and experience to understand the requirements that drive the Nuclear sector and, to deliver high quality information management solutions. Aker Solutions' E&C business in the UK is well established in the delivery of upgrade, refurbishment and new build projects as well as managed operational services, including environmental clean-up in the UK nuclear sector, and Enterprise Informatics has achieved a 15% share of the US market with its eB Nuclear solution set.

The alliance also sees the potential to bring benefits to operators across Europe. For example, with the expansion of the European Union to include a further ten Eastern European countries,  it is necessary for the nuclear operators in these states to enhance their processes and systems in order to comply with stringent European regulatory standards regarding safety and the environment.

President of Aker Solutions' E&C business, David Ley, said: “The fit between Aker Solutions and Enterprise Informatics is ideal. It allows our strong project execution and operational skills to be integrated with the abilities that Enterprise Informatics offer in terms of the tight control and management of information.  Many plant owners and operators have suffered in the past from the lack of accurate information about their plant configuration, and we plan to deliver an approach which provides a really strong return on investment.  Driving down operational costs is one of the key objectives of the alliance.”

Ben Martin, Enterprise Informatic's Director responsible for UK operations, supports this view.  “Our experience in the Nuclear industry in the US shows that Enterprise Informatics integrated document, configuration and records management technology is right for this tightly regulated environment.  Working closely with Aker Solutions, we can provide the customer not only with an outstanding return on investment, but also improved regulatory compliance, reduced risk, and enhanced quality and traceability.  We know that improved quality of information has a direct impact on operational costs; the alliance with Aker Solutions gives both companies an ideal vehicle for delivering some significant benefits to the customer.”

Enterprise Informatics delivers enterprise eBusiness solutions that provide rapid access to accurate information in context to customers, assets, products and processes, resulting in improved customer satisfaction, productivity and safety.
