Aker's reputation score is above the average rating of all companies rated by consumers in 25 countries, and places Aker in an elite group made up of the 200 best regarded companies in the world.
The study was made public on 20 November at www.forbes.com/business.
Among the top 10 companies ranked as the World’s Most Respected Companies are Barilla, Lego, Lufthansa, Ikea, Toyota, Samsung and Kraft Foods. Ten large Norwegian companies were measured and six of them made the RepTrak 200 list: Aker, Reitangruppen, Coop, Statoil, Hydro, and Veidekke.
The survey uses a method of measurement that is standardised -- so company reputations can be compared across branches and country borders.
Global reputation winners are recognised for both delivering good economic results and appealing to the emotions of the general public. This includes measurement of the trust, respect and admiration that survey participants have for the company. Aker – with Kjell Inge Røkke at the lead – scored highest among Norwegians. The survey also shows that Kjell Inge Røkke is the Norwegian top leader that Norwegians admire most.
Research shows that companies that have a good reputation have an easier time attracting customers, suppliers and job applicants.

What is the Global RepTrak™ 2006?
The Global RepTrak™ 2006 is a project developed by Reputation Institute to assess the reputations of the world’s largest companies and thereby identify the companies with ‘the best corporate reputations in the world.’ The study was created to provide executives with a high-level overview of their company’s reputation with consumers. Reputation Institute released some of the top-line results of the 2006 study in Forbes’ online publication. A complimentary copy of the results can be emailed to you upon request and more detailed results will be available for purchase online as of 20th November.
Who was surveyed?
The Global RepTrak™ 2006 is the result of over 30,000 online interviews with consumers in 25 countries on six continents. More than 110,000 ratings were collected to develop reliable measurements of the ‘corporate reputation’ of over 750 companies. The 600 largest companies included in the study are the focus of the ranking provided here.
What companies were included?
600 of the world’s largest companies were rated. Companies selected for inclusion in the Global RepTrak™ 2006 fulfilled four criteria:
- They were among the largest companies in 2004/2005 revenues, either from being listed on a major stock exchange in the respective country, or identified from a published source.
- They were commercial companies and not purely investment trusts.
- They were not strictly business to business companies.
- They had sufficient public visibility to make it possible for consumers to rate them. Some B2B companies also made it to the list on this criterion.
The Global RepTrak™ was conducted in 25 countries, selected because the world’s largest 300 companies originated in these countries:
- Europe: Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom
- Asia Pacific: Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea
- North America: United States, Canada
- Latin/South America: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico
- Africa: South Africa
How were the companies rated?
Companies were rated by consumers in their home country. The RepTrak™ Pulse is a measure of corporate reputation calculated by averaging perceptions of trust, esteem, admiration, and good feeling obtained from a representative sample of 100 local respondents who were familiar with the company.
