On 10 October at 0735 CET, an Atlantic Airways plane was on its way from Stavanger to Molde when it slid off the landing strip at Stord Airport during a planned stop. There were a total of 12 passengers on board plus a crew of four. The 12 passengers were employees from Aker Kvaerner and from a sub-contractor. 12 of the 16 people on board survived -- and according to news reports, all of them are in stable condition. The survivors were transported to Stord, Stavanger and Bergen hospitals after the accident.
Four of the people on board are missing and believed to be dead: Per Olaf Skjæveland, Aker Kvaerner Elektro; Martin Charles Evertsen, Aker Kvaerner Elektro; Jarle Reime, sub-contractor IKM; Gudrun Hervør Joensen, crew member Atlantic Airways.

“This is a tragedy. The entire company is deeply affected by this loss. Our deepest sympathy and thoughts go to the family, friends and colleagues of both the deceased and the injured,” says Martinus Brandal, President & CEO of Aker Kvaerner.
Aker Kvaerner’s emergency team was mobilized as soon as they received news of the accident. They have been working closely with local emergency teams and the police at the scene. Aker Kvaerner personnel are also in place at the hospitals to follow up those that were sent to the hospital after the accident.
Martinus Brandal flew directly from a meeting he was attending in Hammerfest to Stord when he received the news.
Personnel that were at the airport on the way to Aukra and Hammerfest have remained at Stord where they are being taken care of.
Aker Kvaerner has set up crisis centres at Stord and in Stavanger for the families and friends of those involved in the accident.
