Naming ceremony and open day at Stord

Aker Solutions‘ yard at Stord was packed with visitors on the last Sunday in June as people gathered for the open day to mark the 90th year of operations at the yard and the official naming ceremony for the Aker Barents drilling rig.
Naming ceremony and open day at Stord

Aker Barents, one of two new H-6e drilling rigs, was named by godmother Kristin Røed Eriksen, who is the wife of Øyvind Eriksen, CEO of Aker ASA. While Ms Røed Eriksen was the godmother, the guest of honour was Per Christian Sandnæs, also known as the godfather of Aker‘s H-3 rigs. Aker built 37 rigs based on Mr Sandnæs‘ design and all of them are still in operations today - testimony to the quality of the design and construction.

The main difference between the new generation of Aker H rigs and the old, is the size, says Mr Sandnæs.

Open day

The other big event at Stord that Sunday was the open day, to mark the 90th anniversary of Aker Solutions at Stord. The yard was packed with thousands of people, and there were lots of activities for young and old, including fire fighting exercises and a concert by the band Vamp, who come from the region.
