A new SOLAS (safety of life at sea) regulation for emergency towing arrangements to extend to ships other than tankers. The SOLAS regulation II-I/3-4 (emergency towing arrangements) has been amended to apply to all ship types of 500 gt and above
This emergency towing system was originally designed for tankers loading at the Statfjord field in the North Sea. Over time, the system has evolved, been developed, and today meets all the requirements of the new safety of life at sea (SOLAS) regulation.
