Compact cyclonic separator (CySep™)

CySep™ is a compact, modular cyclonic separation system that consists of several cyclonic separation components which enable bulk removal of water from well streams. In addition, CySep™ can perform full three phase separation.

Benefits:

  • Compact, modular design
  • Low weight separation alternative, especially at high design pressures
  • Not sensitive to motion and therefore attractive at FPSOs
  • Ideal for high water cut wells
  • Very attractive for sub-sea installation
  • Weight and space savings allow for reduction in CAPEX
  • Can be rapidly added to an existing production system with minimal downtime.
  • Can be operated in combination with both water discharge and water re-injection
  • Can incorporate three phase metering
  • Can incorporate three phase separation
  • Can incorporate for solids separation
  • Easy to transport and install

The system is best suited for water-continuous feed flow from high water cut wells where the lower water cut limit is measured down to approximately 20 - 50 percent (dependent of fluid properties).

Applications

The CySep™ system is specially designed for subsea applications and topside facilities where saving space and weight are important. CySep™ can increase the effectiveness and capacity of existing separation systems through the bulk removal of water from high water cut wells ahead of the main separation train. In addition the systems minimum footprint and modular design makes it easy to accommodate the CySep™ into an existing facility.

Principles of operation

  • Dependent of separation goals, some or all of the CySep™ system carry out the crude oil separation in several stages by different types of cyclones.
  • Gas/liquid (CCD) (degasser) cyclone, which removes the free gas.
  • Bulk oil/water cyclone, (BOW) which is the first liquid/liquid separating stage.
  • Pre-deoiler cyclone (PDC), which is the first stage water cleaning cyclone.
  • Deoiler cyclone (DC), the last stage which cleans the produced water to less than 40 ppm oil-in-water.

The CySep™ system can also carry out the solid separation either as the first cyclonic stage with a well-stream desander or down-stream the gas/liquid cyclone with one or more sand cyclone stage(s):

  • Vessel style sand cyclones stage (V-8) removes the large solid particles.
  • Liner style sand cyclones 0.5 – 1.5 in second solids separation stage remove solids particles down to 10 mm.
  • Solids accumulator vessels (SCV)
  • Reject recycling pump may also be used in order to improve the oil quality by recycling water rich reject flow back to the inlet.
