A wide variety of problems such as erosion, corrosion, collection and interference can occur due to sand production. This may result in reduced production time and increased maintenance and operating costs. Thus, there are several reasons for installing a sand handling system:

  • Operating above sand free rates; increasing oil production and profitability
  • Environmental aspects/restrictions
  • Produced water injection – protection of well and injection pumps
  • Safety and regularity
  • Produced water and sand rates increases as the wells are getting older
  • Lower operating cost (maintenance, lifetime of equipment)

Sand conditions are seldom equal from field to field. Parameters such as flow rates, sand concentrations and particle size will require different systems for each field. Different requirements for disposal also contribute to the need of a tailor-made solution for each customer. In addition, light-weight and compact equipment is an increasing demand in the upstream oil and gas industry. Aker Solutions provides compact products and solutions that cover the whole range of the sand handling system:

  • Online desanding
  • Sand jetting of separators
  • Sand washing
  • Sand disposal
