Compressor scrubbers

Aker Solutions are a leader in the provision of compressor scrubbers with more than 1,500 installed worldwide.

Applications include compressor suction and discharge scrubbers, inter-stage scrubbers, glycol inlet scrubbers and more. Each solution is individually designed by Aker Solutions for its specific application; our scrubbers have an excellent reputation for performance, reliability, flexibility and durability.

Materials offered range from simple carbon steel to exotic stainless steel. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is used for designing highly stressed components.

  • Our range includes
  • Complete spectrum of gas types
  • High separation performance
  • Small/ Large field developments
  • High/ Low pressures

Vessels and internals

Sizing the vessel and nozzles correctly is critical. The internals must be an appropriate size to achieve the performance required of the scrubber. And in turn the vessel must be large enough to hold these internals.

An inlet device is usually installed, which can serve two functions. It can initially separate some of the liquid from the gas phase, or reduce the momentum of the fluid for better separation. The appropriate internals will then be selected for final gas scrubbing to achieve the performance required of the vessel. The technologies available are:

  • Meshpad demister
  • Vanepack demister
  • Axial flow cyclones
  • Reverse flow cyclones
  • Filter cartridges

Each of these has its own advantages, and the engineering team at Aker Solutions will decide which demister should be used for each individual vessel. A combination of these can be installed depending on separator performance required. Figure below shows an example of this.

CFD

Aker Solutions have extensive experience in the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to optimise their design for separators. CFD helps to understand the movement of fluid particles allowing elimination of recirculation, channelling and stagnant effects which can significantly reduce the efficiency of a separator.

Debottlenecking/upgrade design service

This service is offered for existing scrubbers and separators where changes in operating conditions necessitate upgrading of existing process internals with internals having a higher capacity and performance capability. Such as upgrading inlet devices with high-performance vane type inlet devices or cyclonic inlet devices and installing axial flow cyclones instead of vane pack or meshpad demisters.
