Aker Solutions provide a unique process for sulphate reduction from injection water.

Aker Solutions provide a unique process for sulphate reduction from injection water by using nano filtration separation technology to control scaling and souring effects. The primary application of the technology is scale control in high barium/strontium water injection applications. Secondary applications include souring control, reducing sulphate contents and thereby the feedstock of sulphates reducing bacteria in the sea water.

Water Injection System

A higher quality injection water devoid of sulphates and other particulate matter provides cost savings by:

  • Avoiding plugging of injection wells
  • Avoiding squeeze treatments and well workovers
  • Avoiding potential souring of reservoir

Raw sea water passes through coarse and fine filters, fuel gas or vacuum deaerator, cartridge filters and, finally, through the Sulphate Reduction Unit (SRU).

Typical facility consists of:

  • Pre-treatment
  • Deaeration (upstream or downstream of the SRU)
  • Sulphate Removal Unit (SRU)/nanofiltration
  • Injection systems
  • Chemical injection package
  • Other required utility systems
