Subsea Processing Systems

Subsea processing is used to increase the hydrocarbon production in a cost optimized way for new field developments, tie-backs and for existing facilities. It can also enable production in marginal fields. The main types of subsea processing include combinations of oil-water separation, gas-liquid separation, gas-liquid-multiphase boosting and water injection in the oil or gas field’s wellstream on the seafloor.

We Are Market Leaders

Aker Solutions has pioneered subsea separation since the 1980s and offers systems that use both groundbreaking and proven technologies. We have an exclusive cooperation called the WellSep™ Alliance with Fjords Processing, formerly named Aker Process Systems. The alliance combines Fjords’ topside and onshore separation technologies with Aker Solutions’ subsea processing experience and testing facilities. Together we will maintain the subsea processing legacy and develop the best solutions for subsea processing.

The main types of subsea processing we provide include oil and water separation, water treatment to meet reinjection quality requirements, oil-treatment systems and sand separation.

Our systems are robust, flexible and cost efficient, whether for conventional separation or differentiating subsea separation technologies. They range from simple two-phase to three-phase separation with oil boosting, re-injection of produced water and gas treatment and compression.

Our Systems Can

  • Increase hydrocarbon recovery
  • Optimize field development solutions
  • Debottleneck existing production facilities (risers, topside process capacity)
  • Allow subsea produced water separation and re-injection
  • Allow subsea gas/liquid separation and boosting
  • Enable long distance subsea tiebacks
  • Allow production in harsh environments and remote locations
  • Allow seawater treatment for injection
