East Anglia THREE: lifting a 10,700-tonne HVDC topside

The 10,700-tonne seven-storey HVDC topside had to be prepared for load-out and installed onto its offshore jacket around 69 kilometres off the Suffolk coast of England.
The load-out operation followed detailed preparation, including weighing and inspections of the topside and barge. The structure was safely loaded for transport, before heavy-lift partner Heerema Marine Contractors installed the topside onto the jacket using the crane vessel Sleipnir.
The offshore load out and installation was part of the project scope handled by Aker Solutions in consortium with Siemens Energy.
The topside was successfully installed on the jacket at the East Anglia THREE wind farm. At 10,700 tonnes, it was Aker Solutions' largest-ever offshore HVDC converter station and forms part of the 1.4 GW wind farm.
Overall the delivery of the HVDC converter station included engineering, procurement, construction, completion and commissioning, comprising the jacket and topside, the marine load-out and offshore installation.
