Sunrise Wind: Heavy transport and offshore installation

Moving major offshore structures safely across the Atlantic and into position requires careful planning and execution. For Sunrise Wind, Aker Solutions managed the heavy transport and offshore installation of the HVDC topside and jacket.

The challenge

Transport the Sunrise Wind HVDC topside and jacket from Stord across the Atlantic and install the structures safely offshore New York. The operation involved load-out and sea fastening, heavy transport and offshore lifting of two major structures.

Our solution

Aker Solutions managed the transport and installation project. The jacket, built at Aker Solutions yards at Verdal and topside completed at Stord, were loaded onto the heavy transport vessel GPO Sapphire for the voyage to the US. Offshore installation was executed using Saipem's S7000, with the jacket installed first and the topside subsequently lifted from the transport vessel and positioned on the jacket.

Outcomes

The topside lift and positioning were successfully completed in just under six hours. The complete transport and installation campaign was delivered ahead of plan and without incidents, demonstrating Aker Solutions' ability to plan and manage complex heavy transport and heavy lift operations across international project locations.
