Our St. John’s, NL office is looking for a Structural Designer to join our Engineering team!

In this role, you will work within a multidisciplinary onshore engineering team, contributing to structural design and analysis activities that support the installation of new equipment and systems, lifting devices, and various modifications, all in compliance with relevant specifications, codes, and standards.

What will you be doing?

  • Completing conceptual and detailed structural design work based on project specifications and engineering inputs in accordance with applicable specifications, standards and codes (CSA, ASME, API and DNV).
  • Utilizing 3D modelling software for structural design in all engineering stages; concept through to detailed design.
  • Preparing or supporting the creation of documentation packages and construction drawing sets.
  • Preparing bulk or material requisitions for procurement and fabrication of structural materials.
  • Analyzing the effect of proposed changes for proper fit and/or interference problems and recommend possible solutions or alternate construction methods, collaborating as required.
  • Modify drawings as required and confer with engineers to resolve issues.
  • Applying detailed knowledge of structural steel design, member selection, and connection design (welded and bolted) in all design deliverables.
  • Calculating weights and COG for Structural Modifications.
  • Perform check of drawings and designs to control quality and accuracy.
  • Liaising with other disciplines through work development; investigating, advising, making recommendations, and developing solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance to other designers in discipline.

We think you should have:

  • 7 years' of experience in a similar role
  • Technical college diploma or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Solid understanding of standard structural design codes, standards, methods and practices
  • Knowledge and experience with computer-aided design software including PDMS, AutoCAD and Navisworks.
  • Experience in the weight and center of gravity calculations for structural modifications.
  • Current certification or ability to complete required training and meet pre-access requirements for travel offshore for surveys when required is an asset.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in technology.
  • Familiarity with vessel drawings and marine construction methods would be a benefit.
  • Meet deadlines and manage critical priorities.
