Design and construction of jackets

Over the past 50 years, Aker Solutions has designed more than 100 steel jackets, from 1000 to 20,000 tonnes. Our jacket design and construction services range from shallow water structures to large, fully installed, deepwater jackets for harsh environments.

What are jackets?

Jackets are structures built with fixed lattices of steel tubulars, moored on the sea floor. They can support offshore wind installations or oil and gas production facilities and may be located in water depths up to 300 meters. Worldwide, jackets are the most commonly used support structure for offshore installations.

Jacket design considerations

Design is influenced by parameters such load carrying capacity, fatigue and life cycle. Installation method must also be taken into account, lift or launch. They can even be built to withstand extremely harsh environments, such as the North Sea.
