Subsea removal at Oselvar

Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) approved removal of subsea facilities from the Oselvar field in January 2022. Oselvar was located at around 70 meters depth in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

The project was carried out as a joint venture between Aker Solutions and DOF Subsea.

The challenge

Decommissioning Oselvar which was to be completed before the end of the year, required the recovery of subsea infrastructure at around 70 meters depth, including the template and associated equipment. The scope included removal of the manifold, covers, WBIs and concrete blocks, before recovery of the subsea template itself.

Our solution

Our team performed the engineering work for the complete removal and dismantling of the subsea template and associated hardware.

Following recovery of the manifold, covers, WBIs and concrete blocks, the subsea template was lifted using the DOF vessel Scandi Acergy.

Outcomes

All elements of the Oselvar infrastructure were successfully recovered and removed from the field by the end of the year.

An estimated 800 tonnes of subsea templates and pipelines were recovered from the seabed. The recovered subsea hardware was shipped to the Aker Solutions disposal yard at Stord, Norway, where 96.8 percent of the total material were recycled.
