Our system engineering experience from facilities onshore and offshore allows us to design and build for safe and reliable operation.
Our hydrogen experience started in 1990 with the engineering of steam reforming plants under an Aker Kvaerner-Davy Process Technology alliance. Between 2018 and 2023 alone, we put 100,000 engineering hours into feasibility and concept studies as well as front-end engineering (FEED) on green hydrogen (via electrolysis), blue hydrogen (from natural gas), ammonia and e-fuel projects.
Today, we serve a worldwide hydrogen market from centres in Norway, the UK and India.
From feasibility studies to engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), we are a complete integrator with a technology-agnostic approach. Our long-standing relationships with equipment providers (OEMs) ensure we define and deliver the best and most cost-effective system.
We leverage four Norwegian fabrication yards and partnered yards worldwide to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of your project. We offer commissioning and onshore integration testing along with operations management and maintenance support.
Aker Solutions is best known for integrating new technology into the design and construction of assets offshore or in remote onshore areas. We deploy a high degree of modularization and digitalized control to allow the predictive monitoring and preventive maintenance that ensure predictability in operations.
We bring a multidisciplinary toolbox to our hydrogen offering and access experts in process engineering, safety, mechanics, materials, electrical, layout, digitalization and cost estimation.
Aker Solutions is involved in a diverse portfolio of concept and FEED studies across hydrogen value chains. These assignments include the following:
ADDING VALUE: retrofitting of clean H2 production at existing process facilities (i.e., at methanol plant, refineries, gas terminals, etc.).

Aker Solutions has, since the 1990’s, engineered pioneering projects in carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS). We are the owner’s engineers on several large Northern European CCUS projects that include carbon transport.
Together with our CCUS team, we develop solutions that extract hydrogen from natural gas and use the CO2 captured from industrial processes in the production of e-fuels, methanol and other derivatives.
