Design and Construction of Jackets

Aker Solutions offers jacket design- and construction services that span from structures installed in shallow waters to large launch-installed deepwater jackets for harsh environments.

Jackets are fixed lattice structures made up of steel tubulars pinned to the sea floor, supporting offshore oil and gas production facilities located in water depths up to 300 meters.

The jacket design is influenced by parameters such as required load carrying capacity, fatigue and life cycle, taking into account installation method by lift or launch. They are the most frequently used offshore-support structure globally, and can even be built to withstand extremely harsh environments such as the North Sea.

Over the past 50 years, Aker Solutions has designed more than 100 steel jackets ranging in sizes from 1,000 to 20,000 metric tons. Our engineering teams offer design services from feasibility and concept studies to front-end engineering design and detail engineering services to fabricators for projects worldwide. Our services span from simpler jacket structures installed in shallow waters to large launch-installed deepwater jackets for harsh environments.

Our specialised facility at Verdal in mid Norway, is highly skilled in delivering cost-effective project execution combined with high quality. The yard has executed 46 steel substructure contracts in 45 years.
