Aker Solutions takes a technology agnostic approach to carbon capture. EPC | Track record

Aker Solutions has been designing and delivering successful CO2 projects since the 1990s. Our experts rely on our rock-solid engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), and completion capabilities to ensure reliable results, no matter the scale or complexity of your project.

Successful deliveries comprise carbon capture, compression and liquefaction, purification, terminal storage and loading.

  • Waste-to-energy carbon capture in Oslo* |  EPC installation and commissioning (EPCIC) to enable carbon capture and storage for Hafslund Celsio’s waste-to-energy facility, Oslo's largest CO2 emitter. The project includes a carbon capture plant, a liquefaction system, a temporary storage and loading facility at the waste incineration site, plus an intermediate CO2   storage terminal with truck and marine loading systems. Aker Solutions earlier front-end engineering and design (FEED) supported significant cost reductions for the Oslo CCS project. 

  • Cement manufacturing carbon capture in Brevik* | The capture plant at Heidelberg Materials’ cement factory, part of Norway's Longship initiative, came on-stream in May 2025. 

  • Northern Lights* Phase 2 | This latest part of the Longship initiative expands capacity of the CO2 terminal to meet growing demand from European emitters, targeting storage of at least 5 million tonnes of CO2 per year.

  • Northern Lights* Phase 1 | Completion of the CO2 terminal at Øygarden outside Bergen marked a major milestone for Norway's Longship initiative and a significant achievement in open access carbon transport and storage.  EPCIC encompassed the terminal, prefabricated onshore facilities and site installations, jetty facilities to enable import of CO2 from ships, storage tanks for intermediate storage of CO2, and process systems for gas conditioning and subsea injection. 

  • Technology Centre Mongstad | Aker Solutions was responsible for EPC of the TCM capture technology centre in Norway, which opened in 2012. This remains one of the world’s largest and most advanced test facilities for carbon capture technologies.  

  • Pioneering offshore CO2 capture and storage | Equinor Sleipner Vest
